Dimension is more soluble, so it will set up in the soil faster than prodiamine. It also has some early post-emergent control if you are lucky enough to hit crabgrass at the right time.
Prodiamine is an excellent pre emergent. So is dimension. But dimension also has post emergent properties that will kill off crabgrass up to the second tiller stage.

Prodiamine will provide pre-emergent coverage for up to 9 months on cool season turf and up to 12 months on warm season turf without a split application and depending on dosing. That is longer than Dimension. If there is a difference in weeds blocked, it isn’t enough to matter. I also care more about grassy weeds than broadleaf weeds.

I was thinking that using Dimension in the early spring and Prodiamine around mid-summer may be a good idea. That way the Dimension can hit any crabgrass that may already have germinated and the Prodiamine can offer me extended protection into the early winter against poa annua. I also wont hit my Prodiamine limits etc.
Dimension is good if you missed the window of application just a bit, and you are already seeing some crab grass come up, as Dimension has a bit of post-emergence weed fighting abilities as well. Just depends on your situation. Some people use Prodiamine in early spring, and follow up with an app of Dimension later in the year. 8, Dimension is also better than Prodiamine in controlling broadleaf weeds. Dimension 2EW is labeled for such weeds like Chickweed, Purslane, and Spurge. Dimension can technically be used as a pre emergent and post emergent.
